Chief Ockert Lewies of Griqua people of South Africa passed away after a long battle with cancer.

The Griqua people are mixed heritage people between the European colonial men and khoikhoi & Tswana women.

Now the predominantly speak Afrikaaner language but are still fighting to conserve their language from extinction. They also have their own monarchical system headed by a paramount chief or sometimes called king though not officially recognised as a kingship by South African government
