Lesotho Royal Tiaras and Crowns

The Lesotho royal family is the reigning royal family of the Kingdom of Lesotho. They are descendants of the King Moshoeshoe I, who consolidated various clans into the modern Basotho nation. The royal family have a few western style head pieces and Basotho style headpieces worn by members of the royal family at either weddings, coronations, birthday shoots etc.

Lesotho Crown

It was made in 1972 modelled afte the basotho national hat called Mokorotlo. It has never been used on any coronation.

King Letsie III coronation headpiece

King letsie III was crowned 31st October 1997 at Setsoto stadium. He was crowned with a beaded headband with a feather on the side. King Letsie III is seen wearing lehlosi and holding a sceptre on his coronation. Lehlosi is a chiefly blanket made of wild animal hide.

Lesotho Fringe Tiara

The history of this tiara is unknown. It was first seen on late Queen mother ‘Mamohato during the church royal wedding of her son King Letsie III of Lesotho in 1999. Currently it is used by her daughter in law, Queen ‘Masenate Mohato Seeiso who wore it during the 60th coronation anniversary for King Bhumibol of Thailand in 2006.

Queen Masenate Wedding Crown

King Letise III of Lesotho married Ann Karabo (now known as Queen ‘Masenate) in a three day wedding in 2000. She wore an incredible crown modelled after the Basotho hat called the Mokorotlo. Mokorotlo is the national symbol of Lesotho and is part of the national dress of basotho people worn by both men and women.

Queen mother Mamohato Flower Tiara

Queen mother Mamohato also wore a flower tiara during the banquet of the royal wedding in 2000. The design depicts three flower buttons placed on a base.

Queen Masenate Pre wedding Tiara

Queen Masenate wore a small tiara during their pre wedding gala in 2000.

Princess Senate Tiaras

Princess Senate is the eldest child of King Letsie III and Queen Masenate of Lesotho. She has been pictured wearing two small tiaras. One for her matric school dance and one for her 18th birthday shoot.

Princess Sekhothali Seeiso now Queen of Ndebele

Princess Sekhothali Seeiso married King Makhosonke II of Ndebele Kingdom, South Africa. She wore a tiara to her purple themed church wedding in Lesotho.
