Dynastic royal marriage or wedding is a marriage between members of two royal houses or dynasties.

HM King (Isebantu Kyabazinga) William Wilberforce Gabula Nadiope IV of BuSoga Kingdom married his wife Queen (Inhebantu) Jovia Mutesi on 18th November 2023 at Bugembe Cathedral and reception at Igenge Royal Palace. Its the first BuSoga Royal wedding since 1956 when last King Henry Wako Muloki married and fourth queen consort of BuSoga since 2005 since the last Queen Alice Muloki died. Royal Guests included:

HM King (Ingwenyama) Makhosoke II Mabhena of Ndebele Kingdom, South Africa and HRH Princess Sekhothali Seeiso of Lesotho now HM Queen (Indlovukazi) Sekhothali Mabhena. This is the most recent dynastic royal intermarriage in southern Africa. They married in November 2019 with two ceremonies. The purple church royal wedding was held in Lesotho and a party at the Maseru Royal Palace while the second and traditional ceremony was held in Ndebele Kingdom, South Africa. King Makhosoke ii Mabhena of Ndebele is the son of late King Mbongo ii who reigned from 1960 to 1986. He has been King since 1986. Princess Sekhothali Seeiso of Lesotho is the daughter of Prince Masupha Seeiso of Lesotho, younger brother of late King Moshoeshoe II of Lesotho. 3 day Lesotho royal wedding of King Letsie III of the Kingdom of Lesotho in 2000 to Anne Karabo now Queen Masenate that gathered 40,000 guests diplomats, political leaders and multitudes of Basotho from all walks at setsoto stadium. The couple had the main day royal wedding at Setsoto stadium on 18th February and the next two days they toured the country. King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu of Zulu kingdom, South Africa married now Queen Sibongile Dlamini Zulu as his first wife on 27 December 1969  before ascending the throne as it is custom at Nongoma’s Anglican Church.

King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu of Zulu kingdom, South Africa married now Queen Buhle Mathe Zulu as his second wife on 29 April 1974.

King Goodwill Zwelithini kaBhekuzulu of Zulu kingdom, South Africa married Princess Mantfombi Dlamini of Eswatini formerly Swaziland in 1977. Princess Mantfombi Dlamini is the daughter of late HM King Sobhuza ii of Eswatini then Swaziland and sister to current King Mswati iii. The condition of her marriage was that she becomes the great wife of the king.

King Goodwill Zwelithini married Queen Thandekile Ndlovu as his fourth wife in 1988.

HIH Princess Aida Desta of Ethiopia (Solomonic or shoa dynasty) and HH Leul Ras Mengesha Seyoum, heir and prince of Western Tigray royal house that ruled Tigray kingdom before merged to Ethiopia. Princess Aida Desta was the eldest granddaughter of HIM Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia through his eldest daughter Princess Tenagnework Haile Selassie of Ethiopia. The princess often accompanied her grandfather the emperor Haile Selassie abroad as his companion. She died in 2013. Leul Ras Mengesha Seyoum is the heir and prince of the Western Tigray royal house that ruled the Tigray kingdom before it was merged with Ethiopia. He is also the great-grandson of Emperor Yohannes iv of Ethiopia. He previously served in various royal positions before the abolition of the Ethiopian monarchy. He was appointed to the national Reconciliation commission and is the senior-most elder prince of Ethiopia after the crown prince. They have 7 children, many grandchildren and great grandchildren.

King Moshoeshoe II married Princess ‘Masentle Tabitha Lerotholi Mojela (later known as Queen ‘Mamohato Bereng Seeiso) at the Catholic Cathedral of Mofumahali oa Tlholo (Our Lady of Victories) in Maseru on 23 August 1962. The King was 24 at the time and the young princess from Tebang in Mafeteng was 21.

Royal wedding of Prince Louis Rwagasore of Burundi and princess Marie Rose Ntamikevyo in 1959. Prince Louis Rwagasore was the eldest son of King Mwambutsa IV Bangiricenge of Burundi and served as Prime minister until he was ass@sinated by the Belgium colonial government three years after his wedding in 1961. Today he is considered an independence hero and is celebrated every 13th October Shortly after his death his two daughters princess Maria Therese and princess Maria Pia also d!ed of suspected poisoning. They are buried alongside their father. Princess Marie Rose Ntamikevyo fell into depression and d!ed of suspected poisoning in 1973 as released by her parents autopsy report.

Behind them is her brother HM giant King (mwami) Mutara III Rudahigwa of Rwanda in a blue cloak and Queen (Mwamikazi) Rosalie Gicanda and Queen mother (Umugabekatsi) Kankazi in a white crown. Behind the king in pink is Birasa Bya Kanyemera ka Kananga ka Rwanyanya rwa Yuhi IV Gahindiro. Prince Bideri is a royal descendant of king  Yuhi IV Gahindiro as Bideri wa Bideri Bya Kanyemera ka Kananga ka Rwanyanya wa Yuhi IV Gahindiro while the princess Speciose is a daughter of King Yuhi V Musinga as Mukabayojo wa Musinga wa Rwabugiri wa Rwogera rwa Yuhi IV Gahindiro.

Wedding of Princess Speciose Mukabayojo of Rwanda

The royal wedding of HRH Princess Speciose Mukabayojo of Rwanda. She is the only surviving child of late King Yuhi V Musinga (1883-1944).she is also the younger sister of late King Mutara III (1911-1959) and King Kigeli v (1936-2016)

Wedding of Crown Prince Asfaw Wossen of Ethiopia and Princess Wolete Israel Seyoum of Western Tigray royal house 1931

HIH Crown Prince Asfaw Wossen of Ethiopia (Solomonic or shoa dynasty) (later HIM Emperor in exile Amha Selassie of Ethiopia)  married Princess Wolete Israel Seyoum of Western Tigray royal house that ruled Tigray kingdom before it was merged with Ethiopia. The arranged marriage occurred in 1931 and divorced in 1941 having one daughter HIH Princess Ijigayehu Amha Selassie. Crown Prince Asfaw Wossen was the eldest son of HIM Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia and Empress Menen Asfaw. Princess Wolete Israel Seyoum was the daughter of Prince Seyoum Mengesha, head of the Western Tigray royal house. She was sister to Leul Ras Prince Mengesha Seyoum and great granddaughter of Emperor Yohannes iv of Ethiopia.

Wedding of Princess Zenebework Haile Selassie of Ethiopia and dezajmatch Haile Selassie Gugsa of Eastern Tigray royal house

HIH Princess Zenebework Haile Selassie of Ethiopia (Solomonic or shoa dynasty) and dezajmatch Haile Selassie Gugsa of Eastern Tigray royal house. This arranged marriage of the 14 yr old daughter of Emperor Haile Selassie of Ethiopia and 25yr old noble was supposed to cement the relationship between the Tigray houses and the shoa royal line. Sadly it ended when the princess died aged 16 allegedly of mistreatment from her husbands family. Her father the emperor was angry that he took her body back to Addis Ababa to be buried in the family’s tomb rather than her husband. Dezajmatch Haile Selassie Gugsa later supported the Italians against his own father in law after the strained relationship. He was labelled a traitor after the Italians were defeated by Ethiopia and sentenced to death but pardoned to life sentence by the emperor. He died in 1985 still labelled a traitor by the dictator government after falling of the monarchy

Wedding of Late King Maxhoba Sandile of Rharhabe, South Africa and Princess Nomusa Zulu later Queen regent Noloyiso Sandile

King Maxhoba Sandile married Princess Nomusa Zulu of the Zulu royal family in 1988. She was the daughter of the late King Cyprian Bhekuzulu and a sister to the late King Goodwill Kabhekuzulu. She was addressed by her praise name Queen Noloyiso Sandile Aah Noloyiso. She served as regent from 2011-2020. King Maxhoba died in 2011 while Queen Noloyiso in 2020. Together they have two children including King Jonguxolo kaSandile
